AYIN René: "There will be free performances in neighborhoods"

The sponsor of the Festival bikusti talks about his festival, which begins today.

Festi-bikutsi begins Monday. In terms of organization, do you feel that this festival will be better than previous editions?
is a wish. We still believe that this will be one of the best editions. We expect a large audience over the programming that we have made. We believe that programming is sufficiently attractive for the public stands to gain. It is sufficiently varied and dynamic. And I think if nothing happens in the meantime, I think The festival will be one of the best.

When is the 11th edition of a festival known as the festi-bikusti, we imagine that the difficulties are less
... We do everything to diminish them. You know that it is the sinews of war is most lacking, we set up strategies for overcoming a number of things that the festival is organized. Necessary and essential elements are already combined. We believe that the festival be held. If we took care to announce, that means we had 75% of the elements that allow us to organize the festival. Problems abound. There are always problems but we try to minimize the margin problems that maximizes the energies that help make the festival successful.

What will the particularity of the festi-bikutsi this year?
The peculiarity of this year, the primary one is the deployment that we're in town halls. We try to involve local councils in organizing this event which is becoming a popular event. We believe that the mayors of Yaounde, the mayors must work together to organize this event in one way or another. That's why we chose to go in 3 halls this year to give lectures and public events with our partner, our sponsor, Les Brasseries du Cameroon, who will deploy as a podium with the material above and artists that will make free services in neighborhoods, in town halls. A mayor of Yaounde 2 to Tsinga, mayor of Yaounde 6 to Biyem Assi and mayor of Yaounde 3 to Nsam

Bikutsi Among the stars of the most prominent of the moment, there will be absent. We talk about Katino, Majoie Ayi, Lady Ponce, Ama Pierrot and others who might be absent. What are the stars who will not be there and why?
ones you mentioned are actually absent. If they succeed in freeing themselves from their business, maybe they could be there but we prefer to tell the public the truth that accompanies us in this festival. We prefer to say that these people crowded curricula. And it may be that they can not be there. Those who are going to surprise return before the time we think we will integrate them because they had already been programmed. Now, their calendar of events outside of Cameroon because they can not be there at that time there because you also know that it's important that artists rub international realities and that is why we work. So we encourage them to continue because we want our artists have competitive performances. That's why it does not bother us that they are not there. They are all heart with us. If they ever have the opportunity to return and celebrate with us, they will be there.

One of the criticisms that are usually done with singers Bikutsi, is that they deliver messages to the sexual overtones and sometimes pornographic. What is your festival to correct this negative perception of Bikutsi?
No, I think this speech has long since changed. What we're really doing is we're trying to make efforts to convey to young artists who come that's not the way of salvation to sing nonsense. Now you can see that the likes of Mamadou Aijo as Bisso Solo, as I mention Uncle Ebogo more, have a discourse that is very special. They have interesting texts and it is them that we are trying to encourage, because when The festival began to be held, there had this problem there. We tried to circumvent it and today I think we are on track. The discourse has changed, are educational texts, the melodies are attractive. I think the orchestration is following. So that's what we're trying to do. Just to orient them so that it goes well.

Sonel Essos The camp is the site of the festival but you say there will be caravans in town halls. Specifically, how will this happen?
Clearly, it will happen as follows: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the shows are free in town halls that we have quoted above. From 16 hours because we start with a conference-debate and we go on the shows. The popular shows are free for us to develop greater convergence of the public. And we return to the camp site Aes Sonel to the opening ceremony of the festival on Thursday. Once we made the opening ceremony, the successive shows up Saturday without stopping. Therefore, shows start at Camp SONEL on Thursday 12 until Saturday 14.

In a recent interview, you indicated that the artists' fees is set at 50,000 francs per evening. At the moment, is what you have already met all the assurances that none of the artists is not going to complain at the end of the festival? It
things that we have resolved a long time. Artists know this. We have no real sponsors. We have no financial support consistent. That is why we prefer to hear the artists for this kind of problem does not arise. I think almost 3 years, we have no such problem. The artists do not complain wil-bikutsi because it is their festival. This is not a festival that is organized to ... promotion of culture. It is they who chose the same. And I think they are with us ... And that's why sending a clear message to everyone that is 50 000 francs. 50 000 francs is not a stamp, it is a participation bonus. So the day we have a sponsor that supports a number of expenses, we pay considerable fees.

So you do not have sponsors ...
Yes, currently we have no sponsors. We have people who join us, partners, but for now we have no real sponsors. But I think it will not be long because that the Brasseries du Cameroon have been with us a while. I think at some point they will understand that we have a serious organization and need to combine the image they Breweries at this festival is a festival that moves and is talked about.

Last question, you probably have ambitions for the festival in the future. Are you with us?
ambitions is to open the festival on the international market as it is a festival that we decided to restructure. In the restructuring phase, we were forced to stop inviting the artists that come outside which cost us dear in terms of airfares, in terms of accommodation, in terms of meals, transport. It's things ... sometimes we think that these are insignificant things but in fact it is not negligible. We need insurance for an artist from where it is for him to come. And he must be opened to Central Africa. Since we are talking about music Bantu. Bantu music are not only in Cameroon They extend over much of Africa. We will give an opening for artists in the diaspora who have something more to us make in relation to their experiences over their careers. So it's a bit like that. And today, we focus on the festive aspect of the festival. I think there is a field research that is important. I think in the future, we can conduct research to identify that all the rhythms that partner with bikutsi.
