I Need A 220 Volt Thermostat For My Smoker

Chienku Magnus: "Polygamy has shaped my personality"

trained journalist and author of a first novel, "wisdom of polygamy", he talks about it in an exclusive interview.

You do, with this first novel, you enter the circle of writers. What you led to the writing?

My childhood was marked by a polygamous setting quite unique. I was very affected by conflict of interest in my family. I have written this book to share my experience with others.

You now have 35, why do not you write earlier?

C is true that I have written earlier, but I did not have enough time and inspiration. Having returned to the school (of Journalism after a turn in the business, Editor's note) gave me the opportunity and conditions for writing.

Why the title "wisdom of polygamy?

I chose this title because the whole polygamy is not always bad. It is true that there are conflicts of interest, slander, jealousy and hatred, but something evil is good. Polygamy has shaped my personality. Polygamy has given me the courage early in my life. I learned to take charge and fight to make myself heard and respected. Honestly, if I was not a polygamist family I am perhaps not the man I am today. My daily life in a polygamous household was a school of wisdom (wisdom). This justifies the choice of wisdom of polygamy.

Can you summarize the story you tell in this novel?

is the story of a boy very early and sometimes misunderstood by those around him. A child born after a long wait of 5 years by her mother to the delight of her rival. I describe the atmosphere that reigns in our daily family. I insist on the intrigues of the slander and jealousy of my mother. My father, a weak character, trying somehow to prevail order, peace and harmony in her home. My father, he was intellectual, tries to make the best possible education for her children. In fact, my novel is a sort of snapshot of the realities prevailing in polygamous households in our societies.

Generally, first novels writers reflect a little about their own lives. "Wisdom of polygamy" is he strictly your personal history?

Yes, it is a reminiscence of my childhood, a form of autobiography.

Some polygamous couples do quite well. Is It is no egoism of some spouses or wives that problems arise in polygamous households?

Indeed, polygamy in the father is considered a cash cow for his wives. Women are more concerned with their children rather than the father. Take the example of my mother who did everything to make the most of resources to position my father as much as possible their respective children. This is not a question of selfishness, but a question of realism because there's always the fear of women see their husbands take another wife. This will reduce the resource advantage they can receive. To be honest it is "the stampede." They focus on their children knowing that their happiness will come later for them.

You have chosen to publish your novel published by CLE. What justifies this choice?

CLE

I chose first, because in the publishing field, they have proven themselves. It is the oldest house in our area, known for his professionalism and seriousness. Secondly, CLE is a house of GOD. It is an evangelical center, and as children of God, I naturally felt close to CLE. Our father instilled in us the fear of GOD.

The dedication of your novel takes place this Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel. What significance do you attach to this ceremony?

is an important ceremony. You know, this is my first book. This is an opportunity for me to thank everyone who helped make this idea takes shape. It is also an opportunity to know the book by the media here and elsewhere in an exchange that I want to fellowship.

Your novel is written in English. Are you aware of the handicap that it is in broadly speaking countries such as Cameroon? What do you do to reach the French readers?

We are aware of this fact and the publisher has already started the translation in French. If all goes well, we have before the end of the year.

Where and at what price can you get your novel?

Readers can buy the book at the bookstore editions CLE or other bookstores around the country. Regarding the price, we took into account the low purchasing power of Cameroonians. The book will be sold at 2,500 CFA Francs.
